Creating Futures

Prior to the official establishment of the Nebraska Sigma Zeta Education Foundation, Inc. in 2006 (from 1991 through present), the Nebraska chapters of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority have collectively awarded scholarship dollars totaling $53,000.00 to date to deserving high school graduates and collegiate students in the state of Nebraska. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Scholarships


Bernard Hogan Memorial Scholarship

Thank you for your interest in the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Bernard Hogan Memorial Scholarship. Please carefully review the scholarship information and your completed application before submission. You are responsible for submitting all required information in one complete package. Applications without all required supporting documentation will not be considered.

ELIGIBILITY

This scholarship was created to assist African American males attending colleges and universities in Nebraska with the cost of tuition, books, room and board. To be eligible students must have maintained a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, plan on attending a (2) two or (4) four year post-secondary institution in Nebraska and have demonstrated Service for Humanity.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The following materials must accompany each scholarship application:

  • Official High School and/or College Transcript.
  • Resume and Wallet Size Photo.
  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation.
  • High school teacher, college professor or faculty member who can attest to the applicant’s high level of scholarship.
  • Community leader or college faculty/staff who can attest to the applicant’s excellence in community service.
  • A 250 word statement describing what service for humanity means to the applicant and why it is important.
  • A 250 word statement describing future career goals and how those goals relate to the principles of scholarship and service.

SELECTION PROCESS

All applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2016. All applications postmarked following that date will not be accepted. The winner(s) of the scholarship will be notified by May 1, 2016.

AWARD AND PAYMENT

The winner(s) of this scholarship will receive a one-time disbursement of at least $500.00 to be used for expenses including tuition, books, room and board. The check will be made out to the scholarship recipient and the office to which the money is to be applied such as the university bookstore or the business office. Once the award recipient has been chosen he will have the opportunity to identify where the scholarship will be applied.

Awards will be issued accordingly after August 1st for the ensuing academic year.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Scholarships


Beta Psi Zeta Chapter Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicant must be an African American female graduating high school senior
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a four year college or university
  • Applicant must be a Nebraska resident

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The following materials must accompany each scholarship application:
This scholarship application consists of six sections. Read carefully and complete each item. All requested information must be supplied and completed before your application can be considered. All application information must be typed. Please include a small recent photograph.

  • Completed application form (please type).
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from choice of high school teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, or individuals with significant knowledge of applicant’s experience and involvement (relatives should not be included).
  • An official high school or college/university transcript.
  • A resume detailing academic achievements and activities.
  • An Essay: Provide a brief biographical (background information) and explanation of career goals in no more than 150 words.
  • An Essay: Please answer the question in no more than 150 words: One of the principles of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is Finer Womanhood. Explain what Finer Womanhood means to you and how you demonstrate the qualities of a finer woman?
